Weeds, the Snow College literary journal, is a student production in every possible sense. The content is written entirely by students, and the magazine is staffed and produced by students. Many, though not all, of the works published in Weeds are originally composed for English 225R, Creative Writing. The position of Editor-in-Chief is awarded competitively—along with a full tuition scholarship for the semester in which the magazine is published (usually the spring).

Weeds is also published in coordination with the Eris Sondrup Nielson Contest, which provides awards for the best literary works submitted in each of three categories. A former teacher, Eris Sondrup Nielson once wrote the following, which we feel captures the spirit of Weeds exactly:

"I believe that one of the greatest of God's gifts is the ability to feel and enjoy the beauty of the world around us and especially to feel and enjoy our relationships with others. To learn to express those feelings is a talent we can all develop."
