Most majors require specific classes the
first two years. When students are
planning schedules they should plan for these prerequisite classes. A list of these classes for many majors
is available at http://www.snow.edu/~advise/majorguides.html |
Students should contact faculty in their departments and advisers at
the university to which they plan to transfer. |

Associates Degree can really give you an advantage when transferring to the
“big schools”. If you’re getting

General Education classes are the “GE’s”

base of information and knowledge. |

General Education information is in the
catalog on page 30. A printable
copy is located at http://www.snow.edu/~advise/worksheet.html. |

Understanding General Education is critical
to schedule planning. If you have
AP credit you should look on page 26 of the catalog. Other college work may

After advising thousands of students, the
staff in the Academic Advisement Office have come up with what we call
“Free Advice”. Free Advice tips can help you get started on a successful
college experience. Part of college
life is learning to inform yourself.
This idea stretches not only to class work, but to majors,
prerequisites, and graduation. So
enjoy some freebies on us. |
FORGET YOUR PREVIOUS GPA |
It really won’t matter now that you are a
college student. You get a fresh
slate, and what you do with this new start totally depends on you. |
Have all official transcripts to Snow College as
soon as possible. We need this so
you don’t take the same class twice. |
AP credit |
Concurrent enrollment |
Advisors need all of the above information
to help you organize the best schedule.
Snow accepts this credit only if we have your official transcripts. |
ACCEPT REALITY |
Classes meet at 7:30 am (yes, morning) |
Classes meet until 9:30 pm |
Classes meet on Friday |
We are sorry but some classes are already full. |
There are no easy classes. |
Yes, it’s hard-it’s college! |
SNOW COLLEGE IS EASY TO GET ADMITTED INTO, BUT
NOT “EASY” |
Because Snow College is an open enrollment
institution it is easy to get into.
However, the easy part stops on the first day of class. You will have daily homework, daily reading,
and the work doesn’t stop. |
College is rigorous. |
The classes you take here will transfer to the
“big schools” because they are the same. |
It only makes sense, right? Our classes transfer to the four-year
schools. The four-year schools
accept them. You get to go to a four-year
school after Snow. You get the
idea? |
The reading: 100-150 pages per night. |
The pace:
40 weeks of material in 15 weeks. |
The writing:
essay questions, research writing, correct grammar, spelling,
punctuation. |
The homework:
2:1 This means one hour in
the classroom equals two hours of study time per class. |
The depth:
why, why, why ??? |
Freedom:
it’s all up to you. |
Less flexibility: no extra credit. |
Unfamiliar vocabulary: new words, big words. |
Smaller class sizes: 25-35 students per class. |

Math lab |

Learning is rewarding! |

The instructors at Snow College are here to
teach. They are not paid to do
research or publish. In fact,
instructors at Snow College are real professors, not graduate students. Many have more than twenty years of
teaching experience, and most are very helpful in cases where students need
extra help after class. |

Details, details, details |
To succeed in college, your level of
awareness needs to increase. Manage
your time, check and re-check details, and read the small print. Don’t count on hearsay or roommates for
important details. Check it out
yourself! |

What is a “UW” |
If you miss class often, teachers can drop you
from the class. This is a UW and is an UNOFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL. If you have a
UW you’ll need to OFFICIALLY withdraw from the class. To do this you need a drop card with
your teacher’s signature. If you don’t drop the class your grade will be E.
(E is an F). Refer to page 18 of
the catalog for more details or contact the Academic Advisement Office. |

If you catch yourself saying this phrase we can
help you put the blame in its appropriate place…In reality we work
diligently to inform students. However, full responsibility falls on the
student! It’s like, welcome to
college—heads up! |

information: |
Majors you are thinking about. If you are undecided about a major,
that’s okay. Just let us know what
your interests are. Give us your top three potential majors |

if your birthdate were the 4th of July the PIN would look like
this 070484, easy huh! Then, simply
