Snow College

History

Joseph Crane, after returning from World War II, had an interest in broadcasting and filed the license for an educational FM station at Snow College. Over the next 35 years the station was on and off the air due to the lack of funds and supervision. Until its revival in the spring of 1994, Snow was without a radio station since 1978. Due to the time that the station had not been operating, a new license had to be applied for with the FCC. The application was filed on the 6th of October 1992 and the construction permit was granted on August 19th 1993. After President Day granted the finances needed, equipment was bought and Douglas Barton of KMTI, KMXU and KSVC radio provided the engineering needed to hook it all up.

The Kage was back on the air on April 4th of 1994 at 6:30am. We were originally located on the 2nd floor of the communication building on the north side of the Crane Theater. That building was tore down in 1998 and the Kage was moved to the basement of the Varsity House where we carried on for one year and one semester. The move to the main floor in January of 2000 gave us new furniture, better ventilation, better sound quality and a great view! However with all the changes on campus summer 2003, the varsity house was one of the buildings to go. We are currently located in Fern Young Hall, formally a girl dorm, located North of the Noyes Building.

The KAGE continues to strive to bring the best to its listeners and staff. We are constantly adding new music and equipment to achieve this end. Thanks to all those who have made The KAGE into the excellent radio station that it is!
