10. Sagan says on page 237, "Unhappily, no supernova explosions have been observed in our Galaxy since the invention of the telescope, and astronomers have been chafing at the bit for centuries." Though technically still true, a relatively nearby supernova was discovered in February 1987 (since Sagan produced Cosmos). Do a little library research to tell me the last name of the Ian who discovered it, and in what South American country, what the supernova is called (numerical designation), and where it is located (what satellite galaxy).
