Jack Ashton


 

Professor Ashton has been a member of the Utah Symphony for 42 years - 25 of those as principal 2nd violinist. He is a graduate of the University of Utah and did Master's work there in Music Education. He studied with renown violinists, Berle Senofsky and Szymon Goldberg at the Music Academy of the West and Aspen Music Festival . He has taught in Davis , Murray and Granite School districts for 36 years, and is currently Department Chairman of Music at Olympus High School, teaching Orchestra, Chamber Music, and Advanced Placement Music Theory.

Mr. Ashton is founder of the "Young Artist Chamber Players", "Youth Camerata"," Wasatch Mountain Camerata", "Youth Chamber Orchestra", and "Rocky Mountain Camerata" - a European touring orchestra. He is a well known and respected private violin and viola teacher of 44 years having many of his students receive top honors and awards during these years.

He is the winner of the "Secondary Education Teacher of the Year" Award - 1999-2000 by the American String Teachers Association; The Stillman Award - 2001; The Silver Titan Award - 2004; the UHSAA Distinguished Service as Music Educator of the Year- 2005; and the American String Teachers Association - "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" Award - 2006;
