Ryan Gardner


Ryan Gardner is originally from Santa Monica, California and is currently completing his Doctorate in Trumpet Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music with highest distinction and his master’s degree from Rice University – Shepherd School of Music.

Mr. Gardner is on faculty at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege, Third Street Music Settlement, Music Conservatory of Westchester, Greenwich House Music School as well as at the Manhattan School of Music Summer Camp. Aside from his own private studio, Ryan Gardner has served as trumpet faculty at Cypress High School in Houston, Texas and for Rice University – Shepherd School of Music’s Preparatory Division. Mr. Gardner served as the Doctoral fellow for the Educational Outreach program and the Precollege program at the Manhattan School of Music.

As a teacher of trumpet, Mr. Gardner has worked with all levels from beginner to advanced students. He encourages all of his students to enjoy their music-making experience by creating a warm fun environment that fosters learning. Mr. Gardner has had several students be part of All-State ensembles as well as to receive scholarships from prominent universities and conservatories.

As an orchestral performer, Ryan Gardner has played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Honolulu Symphony, the Charleston Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic, the New World Symphony, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra USA, the Music Academy of the West Orchestra, the Aldeburgh Festival Britten-Pears Orchestra and the Verbier Youth Festival Orchestra directed by James Levine.

Mr. Gardner is also an avid chamber musician playing with the Eastman Brass Quintet, the Rochester Philharmonic Brass Quintet, the Houston Symphony Brass Quintet, the Seventh Partial Brass Quintet as well as concerts with the new music ensemble Alarm Will Sound and Crash Ensemble. Ryan Gardner was also the Concerto Competition winner in trumpet at the Eastman School of Music and for the Music Academy of the West Brass Ensemble in which he soloed with both the Eastman Wind Orchestra and the Music Academy of the West Brass.

Ryan Gardner is indebted to all of his main trumpet teachers: Vincent Penzarella, Mark Gould, Marie Speziale, James Thompson and Boyde Hood.
