Karen Brookens Potter, has appeared in numerous operatic and concert performances throughout the United States and Canada. Her list of opera roles includes Despina in Cosi fan Tutte, Cathleen in Riders to the Sea, Blanche in Dialogues of the Carmelites, and Susan B. Anthony in The Mother of Us All. Recital credits include the complete song of Henri Duparc for the Artists Recital Series at Northern Arizona University and the Op. 39 Liederkreis of Robert Schumann for the Temple Square Recital Series in Salt Lake City. Dr. Brookens Potter has premiered works of such composers as Judith Cloud, Michael Cunningham and David Hansen. Her particular interest lies in concert and chamber works in which she has performed Barbara Kolb’s Songs before an Adieu and George Crumb’s Night of the Four Moons with the Arizona New Music Ensemble. Dr. Potter recently sang the role of Gabriel in Haydn’s The Creation and she was the soprano soloist in The Messiah with The Oratorio Society of Utah. She has taught vocal master classes in technique and interpretation in New York, Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho and for universities and private studios across Utah. She holds a doctor of musical arts degree from Arizona State University. Dr. Brookens Potter is Associate Professor and head of the voice area at Weber State University.
