Summer Flute Fest at Snow College will
be June 5,6 and 7th. This year we are excited to have Linda
Chesis of the Manhattan School of Music, the Aaron Copland
School of Music at Queens College and New York University join
our program. She has been the top prizewinner at Paris and
Barcelona International Competitions and at the National Flute
Association Competition, and she has been the recipient of many
awards including a Solo Recitalist’s Fellowship from the
National Endowment for the Arts. She has been the subject of
numerous television and radio broadcasts and her performances
can be regularly heard on National Public Radio’s Performance
Today.
Ms. Chesis will be joining our Flute
Fest staff including Dr. April Clayton, Dr. Elaine Jorgensen,
and Dr. Kristine Parker. Dr. Clayton has performed as soloist
and chamber musician in Russia, South Korea, Germany, Italy,
Barbados, Mexico, and Brazil and across the United States. She
has given a recital at New York’s Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie
Hall as an Artists International competition winner. She has
been the winner of many other competitions, including the MTNA
Woodwind Soloist competition and is a four-time laureate of the
National Flute Association competitions. Dr. Clayton teaches at
Brigham Young University. Dr. Jorgensen has studied with many
of the major flutists of our generation including Julius Baker,
William Kincaid, Jeanne Baxtresser, Sandra Church and Linda
Chesis. She has concertized in Italy, Germany, China, Slovakia
the Czech Republic and throughout the United States and is
currently the flute professor at Snow College. Dr. Parker was a
recent winner of the National Flute Association Convention
Performers competition and has given master classes and lectures
in Utah, Idaho and California. She is presently the Director
and President of Allegro Music Academy Incorporated.
The Festival will focus on performing
flute solo repertoire, chamber music and teaching insights and
techniques for teachers and future teachers. The following is
the list of required music. Students will also need to prepare
a work of their choosing.
Junior High–Sonata
in F Major (Third and Fourth Movements)–B. Marcello
High School –Carnival of Venice
(Theme, Variations 2,4,7, and 8)–P. Genin
College– Sonatina (Second and Third
Movements)–E. Burton
Graduates –Sonata (First and Second
Movements or Second and Third Movements)–J. Feld OR
Sonatine–P. Sancan
A prepared duet, trio, quartet, or quintet
of any level can also be auditioned to perform in the Student
Concert or a Master Class.
