EPHRAIM, Utah—November 4, 2002—Snow College today announced the investiture of Michael T. Benson, Snow’s 14th president, to be held Thursday, November 7 at 4:00 p.m. in the Activity Center on Snow’s Ephraim campus. A reception in the Greenwood Students Center will follow at 5:30 p.m. The general public, students, faculty and staff are invited to the event. There is no price for admission.
A number of guests will participate in the investiture. Nolan Karras, chair of the Board of Regents, will deliver the formal presidential charge. Brief greetings for President Benson will be given by Cecelia Foxley, Utah’s commissioner of higher education; Christian Thompson, Snow’s student body president; Dr. Kim Christison, faculty representative and chair of Snow’s theatre arts program; Shawn Lindow, staff representative and chief information officer for Snow; Mark Stoddard, alumni representative and president of Rural Health Management Corp., and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, a friend of President Benson’s.
Also on the program is Celia Benson, spouse to President Benson, who will offer brief remarks, and Snow’s Wind Symphony and A cappella choir.
The program will conclude with remarks from President Benson who will offer his vision for the college supported by five areas of emphasis. Announcements will be made relating to each area. The program will last approximately 90 minutes.
President Benson’s investiture is also a commemoration of Snow’s Founders Day, which is officially November 5th. The college begins its 115th year under the theme, “115 years of excellence – continuing the tradition.”
Snow College
Snow College, founded in
1888, serves approximately 2,800 students at its Ephraim campus, and
approximately 600 students at its Richfield campus. The college provides general education and applied technology
programs leading to Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of
Applied Science and Associate of Pre-Engineering degrees, and certificates of
completion in a number of occupational areas.
Once owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snow
College became a state college in 1932.
