EPHRAIM,
Utah—February 23, 2004—Snow College today announced that the Donegal House
Band and Irish step dancers will perform Wednesday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the
Eccles Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets are $5 for the event and may be purchased by visiting the Eccles Center
box office or by dialing (435) 283-7411. The group will also perform at Snow
Convocations Thursday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m. in the Eccles Center.
Donegal House Band and the Irish
step dancers are eight artists who combine Irish music with Irish step dancing.
Their program includes a variety of Irish step dancing from the tapping of hard
shoe dances to almost ballet-like soft shoe dancing. The music also varies from
intense driving rhythms and sounds to the ethereal.
The Donegal
House Band consists of four musicians who play a variety of instruments. Paul
Mitchell is leader of the band and is featured on hammered dulcimer and on
Irish flutes and whistles. He has performed throughout Utah with Skyedance and
Shanahy. Dylan Schorer plays the guitar and bouzouki. He has earned honors as a
fingerstyle guitarist. Dan Allen plays the bodhran, concertina, whistles and is
also a vocalist with the group. Rounding out the group is 17-year-old Corinne Simmonds
who is featured on fiddle and vocals.
The Irish step
dancers are led by choreographer/dancer Gina Gottfredson – a yearly participant
at Irish international competitions and an internationally ranked dancer. Gina
is joined by three championship-level dancers – Katie Register, Claire Duignan
and Megan Kwan Smith. The Irish step dancers have appeared with The Chieftains,
Cherish the Ladies, on the Utah Symphony Irish Night and on Living Traditions
programs.
