Get Ready to Start Smart!

Start Smart or GNST 1001- is an orientation class designed to help new students like you jump right into life as a Snow College Badger! Start Smart is the very best way for you to prepare for a great experience at Snow. You’ll meet tons of other new students, become familiar with campus, connect with awesome orientation class leaders, prepare to succeed in your academic goals, and have A LOT of fun!


What happens during Start Smart?

Monday

Students will check in at the Activity Center at 9:00 AM, but must be pre-registered.  Pre-registering can occur up until August 20th.
10:00 Kick-Off and Welcome by the Snow College Student Body Officers
10:30 Start Smart workshops begin including individual section meetings, global and local service and learning, free lunch, and an evening activity sponsored by Student Life.

*Please bring your own gloves for a local service project

Tuesday
Beginning at 9:00 AM, we have a full day of exploration workshops planned!  Interactive workshops include Majors Exploration, Library Resources, Time and Money Management, Meet the Student Body Officers, the Amazing Race Snow College-style, and How to Leave a Legacy.  We will end the day and greet the Fall semester with another evening activity sponsored by Student Life.

Additional Required Sessions
To receive a grade and credit for this orientation course you are required to meet with your class/section for 6 additional weekly small group sessions from August - October and complete assigned follow up activities to help you prepare to have an outstanding academic experience.  In addition, a custom text book has been developed just for Start Smart and the Snow College Campus! The text is required for Start Smart students and will act as your guidebook for succeeding in college. You can purchase your copy from the Snow College bookstore. Purchasing your text prior to Start Smart is recommended.

HELPFUL HINT:  Be sure to select a course section of GNST 1001 that will allow you to attend the weekly meetings without conflicting with any of your other classes.  

How do you register for Start Smart (GNST 1001)?
1. Log on to the class schedule by clicking the link below or going to www.snow.edu/registration
2. Check out the open sections of GNST 1001 and find a section that fits around your class schedule.  Be sure to review meeting days and times carefully before you register for your section of Start Smart.
3. Follow the “add/drop a class” instructions to add the Start Smart section to your schedule. 
NOTE:  There is a $15 class fee for the orientation class to help cover the costs.
4. Watch for important information in the mail during the summer.
5.  Arrive in Ephraim in time to meet us in the Activity Center at 9:00 am on the Monday before classes start.
