Furniture Finishing and Conservation

Carl V. Timm
Carl V. Timm was born in Newark, New Jersey, where he lived until the age of eight. He then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he found his true home surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains. After studying fine arts at the University of Utah, he worked as an apprentice for a Swiss cabinet maker. He then worked for two years as an antique furniture refinisher for a custom furniture shop before starting his own business. He opened a custom furniture refinishing shop, Vintage Arts, in 1967.
In 2005, Carl turned Vintage Arts over to his two sons, Craig Timm (who operates Vintage Arts) and Chris Timm (who founded C. Timm Custom Furniture in 2005).
Carl has taught historical finishing classes for the University of Utah's Department of Continuing Education and the Utah State Historical Society.
During his 38 successful years owning and operating Vintage Arts, Carl's clients included the following:
- The LDS Church (including Lion House and LDS Administration Building fine furniture)
- The Utah State Historical Society (including antique furniture for the Governor's mansion)
- The University of Utah (including furniture for the Eccles residence)
- Utah State University (including furniture restoration in the Old Main Building)
- Several LDS Temples (including Manti, Washington, and Salt Lake Temples)
- Countless private clients and interior decorators
