Wood Furniture I Workshop

Wood joinery is fitting pieces of wood together to form usable items. The word joiner originally applied to 16th century workers who crafted cabinets, furniture, doors, and windows for houses and ships. Joinery is one of the highest skill levels in furniture making. Quality dovetailing, a sign of well-crafted furniture, is a form of joinery created by gifted craftsmen. When well “joined,” handmade furniture retains utility and beauty for generations. Workshop participants learn to hand cut dovetails and other basics of furniture making by building pioneer-type storage chests using hand planes, chisels, and handsaws.

This workshop is a prerequisite to Furniture Making II.
