Scholarship Appeals

The purpose of this page is to provide clear guidelines to students preparing a scholarship appeal. If you have additional questions or concerns after reading this page please feel free to contact the Scholarship Office. Most scholarship appeals relate to issues with Academic Scholarships. Students with issues surrounding a Departmental scholarship should make every effort to resolve the problem with the department before making an appeal to the Scholarship Committee.

Scholarship Appeal Form

Scholarship Contract:
The student has the responsibility to follow the requirements set forth in the scholarship contract s/he signed. A colored copy of this contract is provided to all students when scholarships are awarded. Additionally, the scholarship contract states:
If for any reason you feel you CANNOT complete or fulfill the scholarship requirements as stated on this award or circumstances arise during any semester that sprohibit you from completing the requirements as stated, it is your responsibility to contact   the scholarship office as soon as possible.

If you have questions about your scholarship contract, please contact the Scholarship Office.

Loss of scholarship due to grades:
Students will loose a scholarship if s/he does not meet or exceed the GPA requirement on the scholarship contract. We do NOT round up. If you have lost a scholarship for this reason your first course of action should be to contact all your instructors to verify that all your grades are accurate. If a grade change is made to meet or exceed the GPA requirement please contact the Scholarship Office immediately so we can reinstate your scholarship. Please note that we cannot reinstate the scholarship until the grade is posted. Grade changes must be made by the end of the third week of the semester immediately following the grades in question.  Students appealing for grade purposes are strongly encouraged to obtain supporting documentation from faculty, staff, physician, etc., but not from family members. If you are appealing due to medical reasons, but did not contact the Scholarship Office and/or ADA Coordinator as noted above, you will need to explain why you did not do so. Appeals for this purpose must be received in the Scholarship Office by 5 p.m. on the third Friday of the semester.

Loss of scholarship due to credits:
Students will loose a scholarship if s/he does not meet or exceed the credit requirement on the scholarship contract. We do NOT round up. If a student lost the scholarship because grades and/or credits have not yet been posted, the student has until the end of the third week of the semester to rectify the situation.  Students making a scholarship appeal are strongly encouraged to obtain supporting documentation from faculty, staff, physician, etc., but not from family members. If you are appealing due to medical reasons, but did not contact the scholarship office and/or Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator as noted above, you will need to explain why you did not do so. Appeals for this purpose must be received in the Scholarship Office by 5 p.m. on the third Friday of the semester.

Medical Appeals:
Students appealing for a reduction of course load and/or required GPA due to medical or other disabilities must first have documentation on file with the ADA Coordinator.

Students with medical, psychological, learning or other disabilities desiring accommodations, academic adjustments, or auxiliary aids will need to contact the Accessibility Resource Center, Room 221 Greenwood Student Center, phone number 435-283-7321. On the Richfield Campus contact the Accessibility Services Coordinator, Room 125 Administration Building, phone number 435-893-2216. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator at the Accessibility Resource Center (ACR) determines eligibility for and authorizes the provision of appropriate services and aids.
Appeals for this purpose will be considered throughout the semester, but we do encourage students to appeal as early as possible.

63 Credit Rule:
The rule: Any Snow College student with more than 63 credits must petition the Scholarship Committee to be considered for any Snow College scholarship.

Students appealing this rule must have an academic reason for staying at Snow College. Students are strongly encouraged to obtain supporting documentation from a faculty member AND document the courses you expect to complete. Appeals for this purpose will be considered throughout the semester, but we encourage students to appeal as early as possible.

Students appealing under this category are appealing for the right to be considered for a scholarship. If the appeal is approved, it does NOT automatically mean the student will receive a scholarship. You should also know that remaining at Snow College and earning additional credit may have a direct impact on Financial Aid consideration and/or an ability to transfer to certain institutions. We strongly encourage you to speak with the Financial Aid Office and an Academic Advisor.

Other Scholarship Appeals:
Other scholarship appeals will be considered throughout the semester, but we encourage students to appeal as early as possible. If you have specific questions about an appeal or the process we encourage you to contact the scholarship office.
