 Students will learn how to identify  minerals, rocks, and fossils;  read and  interpret topographic and geologic maps

Environmental Geology (PS)
A study of the geological processes that  affect or are affected by human activity  such as earthquakes, volcanic hazards,  flooding, waste, mineral and energy  resources.
Designed for non-majors
Field Trip may be required.

Oceanography
An introduction to the study of the  earthís oceans including an  understanding of seafloor topography and  composition, plate tectonics, seawater  dynamics and chemistry, atmosphere and  ocean currents, waves, coastal  landforms, and marine life.
Designed for non-majors.

 Practical applications in oceanography  such as map reading, ocean chemistry,  wave dynamics, coastal processes, and  marine biology.
 Field trip maybe required at a cost  of at least $100 for travel,etc.

 Geology of the National Parks
 Introduction to the principles of geology  as observed and studied in the nationalparks in selected areas of the western states.
 Three to four week-end field trips or one two-week field trip will be  required at a cost of approximately $70-250  to the student.

 Physical Geology (PS)
 Introduction to the science of geology for majors.
 Introduction to the materials and  composition of the earth and the  physical processes, both internal and  external, that shape the earth.
 Designed for majors and others  interested.
 Field Trip may be required.

 Physical Geology Lab
 Students will learn how to identify  mineral and rocks;  read and interpret topographic and geologic maps.

 Historical Geology (PS)
 Introduction to the principals involved in  deciphering the earthís  past including the  study of fossils.  A study of the major events in the
 physical and biological  history of the earthís past as indicated  by the geological record.
 Designed for majors and others  interested.
 Field Trip required.
 Prerequisites:  GEOL1010 or GEOL 1110,  ENGL 1010, MATH 1050, BIOL 1010 or  permission of instructor.
 Co-requisite: GEOL 122L

 Historical Geology Lab
 Students will learn to apply the basic  principals of historical geology - rock  identification, sedimentology, relative  and absolute dating,
 fossil identification,  geologic map interpretation.

 Evolution of the Earth (PS)
 An introduction to geology by means of  its historical development as a science.   The readings and discussion will focus on  significant
 controversies both past and  present.
 Field Trip may be required.
 Prerequisites: Acceptance in the Honorís  Program or permission of instructor.

 GEOL 250R  FS (1:0.5:3)
 Geology Field Studies
 A study of the geology of specific areas  in the field.  The students will also be  introduced to some of the basic skills  required of a field
 geologist.  The course  will consist of a few short meetings and a  three or four day field trip.
 Designed for majors and others  interested.
 Field Trip required.
 Prerequisites:  GEOL1010 or GEOL 1110  or concurrent enrollment
 Repeatable for up to 4 credits.
 Fee:  $30 - 50

 PHSC 1130   F (3:3:0)
 Physical Geography  (PS)
 An introduction to geographic analysis of  the processes that operate in the earthís  atmosphere (such as weather, winds,  ocean currents,
 climate and vegetation)  and on the earthís surface (such as  rivers, glaciers, wind, waves).
 Designed for non-majors.
 Field Trip may be required.

 Physical Geography Lab
 Practical applications of physical  geography such as, topographic map and  aerial photograph interpretation,  Quantitative measurements of
 features  such as humidity, sun angle, etc.
