Snow College requires that each chartered student organization have a full-time faculty or staff member serve as an advisor. In some cases, spouses of full-time faculty or staff have been approved by Student Life to serve as advisors. This information is to help both the student and advisor have a clearer understanding of his or her role.

The Role of the Advisor:
The role of the advisor varies from oganization to organization. However, what remains consistent is the tremendous impact the advisor can have in supporting the learning and leadership experiences of student organizations and their members. Advisors add continuity to an organization, particularly at Snow College, where most leadership positions are limited to 1 year of service, resulting in a lot of annual turnover. Advisors help student leaders understand their fit in the overall mission of the college as well as how to access college resources. Advisors also help student leaders exercise good judgement in selecting programs and/or activities. Finally, throught facilitation of student learning, advisors play a vital role in student organizations.

Advisor Expectations:

  • A full-time faculty or staff member of Snow College.
  • Be committed to the student learning and leadership mission of the college. Be familiar with the mission, goals, and purposes of the organization he or she is advising. Attend all campus activities, conference, competitions, retreats or other such activities sponsored by the student organization. Oversee and sign off on all organizational purchases Attend regular meetings with organizational officers in order to stay connected with the proceeding of the organization. This does not mean that the advisor needs to attend every meeting; simply enough to stay well-informed. Share and enthisiam for learning both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Ensure that all organizational activities are within Snow College policy as well as Club and Organizational policy. Club advisors are also expected to ensure that club members conduct themselves in a manner that positively reflects upon the college.
