This report presents the required room utilization rates and seat/station occupancy rates for respective classroom and teaching laboratory spaces.

  • Classroom room utilization rate represents the number of minutes a classroom is used based on a 45-hour week.  The target rate is 33.75 hours per week.
  • Classroom seat/station occupancy rate is percentage of occupied-to-available seats/spaces.  The target rate for classrooms is 66.7% seat/station occupancy.
  • Teaching Laboratory room utilization rate represents the number of minutes a teaching laboratory is used based on a 45-hour week.  The target rate is 24.75 hours per week.
  • Teaching Laboratory seat occupancy rate is the percentage of occupied-to-available seats/spaces.  The target rate for teaching laboratories is 80% seat/station occupancy.

The data provided is for information only!  It can be used by faculty to more strategically maximize the use of existing space.  USHE considers (among other variables) institutionally aggregated space utilization data to inform decision-making on priority capital building projects
