ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Utah Clarinet Festival is a weekend of clarinet performances, clinics, and master classes open to clarinetists of all ages and skill levels. The festival is organized and hosted by the clarinet professors at Utah colleges and universities. This is the eighth annual festival.

The 2019 Utah Clarinet Festival will be held at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

  • When:Friday, February 22, 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday, February 23, 2019, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Who:This event is for all clarinetists of any age and skill level. All are welcome! Our special guest artists this year are Chad Burrow, University of Michigan, and Denise Gainey, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Other presenters/performers include: Christopher Nichols, University of Delaware; Spencer Prewitt, Austin Peay State University (Tennessee); Katie Porter, new music specialist; Adam Ballif, BYU-Idaho; David Feller, Weber State University; Madeline Johnson, Snow College; Aubrey Shirts, Dixie State University; Lee Livengood, Utah Symphony; Jeffrey O’Flynn, Utah Valley University; and many more.
  • What:Throughout the conference there will be a variety of masterclasses, workshops, and performances to choose from. We have a number of vendors with clarinets, equipment, music, etc. on display with nearby rooms for you to try out the equipment. In addition, there will be clarinet choir rehearsals and a clarinet choir closing concert.
  • Where:Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah in the Harris Fine Arts Center.
  • Cost:The event is $18 for one day or $35 for both days if you pre-register before Feb. 20th! After that, you can register on-site for $40 for both days or $22 for one day. All events and concerts are included in the registration fee. Registration tables will be set up in the main gallery of the HFAC throughout the event. If you'd like to be coached by one of our guest artists in a masterclass, please contact Dr. Jaren Hinckley at clarinet@byu.edu.
  • Parking:On Friday, there are free guest parking lots in front of the Museum of Art at BYU or next to the Law Building (off of 900 East). On Saturday, you may park in practically any parking lot on campus for free.
