Relief engraving is much the same as wood engraving, but this class will introduce High Impact Poly Styrene (HIPS) as a carving surface. HIPS is inexpensive, accessible, and extremely durable. Learn how best to plan and transfer images to the material, carving techniques, printing techniques, and how to handle engraving tools. We will also look at how to "get out of the box" (or rectangle) to effectively shape plates for compelling compositions, and how to interface with other print media and mixed media.
