Math and English Placement

What Math Class Should I Take?

If your Math ACT is: 0 -14, you should take
MATH 0700* or you can choose to Test out for higher placement**.

If your Math ACT is: 15 -17, and you are on a STEM pathway you should take
MATH 0800 or you can choose to Test out for higher placement**.

If your Math ACT is: 15 -17, and you are on a NON-STEM pathway you should take
MATH 0850 or you can choose to Test out for higher placement**.

If your Math ACT is: 18-22, you should take
MATH 1010 or you can choose to Test out for higher placement**.

If your Math ACT is: 23-27,  or higher, you should take
MATH 1030, 1040, or 1050

If your Math ACT is: 28 or higher, your Math GE is waived, or you may take
MATH 1060, 1100 or 1210

*credits do not count towards graduation, but they do count towards scholarship and financial aid credit requirements.

**To place into a higher level math class you can take a test called Accuplacer. There is a $10 charge to take this test.  Pay the $10 at the cashiers and take the receipt and photo ID to the testing center, no later that one hour before closing (Testing Center hours).

What English Class Should I Take?

If your English ACT is: 10 or below, you should take ENGL 0980* (required)

If your English ACT is: 11-16 or below, or 1250 on SAT English Exam; You are in the “Grey Zone”, you may take either ENGL 0980* or ENG 1010. ENGL 0980* are the recommended courses to take. You may meet with an academic advisor with any questions. Plan on using the Writing Lab a lot! (Humanities Bldg. #149)

If your English ACT is: 17 or higher, you should take ENGL 1010

*ENGL 0980 credits do not count towards graduation credit requirements, but do count towards full-time student status and scholarship/financial aid credit requirements.

If you English ACT is 30 or above you can do a short writing sample (test) at the Snow College Testing Center located in the Lucy Phillips Building. There is no additional cost.
