Catalog Description: This physical education activity class is designed to help students understand the rules and strategies of Golf I to help them improve their skills and play safely and effectively. This class is for beginner golfers and the class will require an additional fee to participate. This class is repeatable up to 2 times for credit.

Justification: Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to demonstrate the skills, fundamentals and rules of golf. Students will be assessed through participation, skills observation and or assessment of their knowledge of golf fundamentals and rules.

Students will be able to demonstrate the qualities associated with playing as an individual including work ethic and attitude. Students will be assessed through in-class participation, individual assessment of work ethic and attitude.

Students will be able to explain and discuss the techniques and training skills of golf. Students will be assessed through in-class oral quiz assessments on techniques and training skills.


Content:
This course will cover all of the fundamentals of golf, skills and knowledge of the sport's rules through classroom instruction and participation on the golf course. Physical Education disciplines and Snow College value human diversity. This class will strive to represent that diversity in class materials and course content through examples, assignments, practice and discussions.

In class participation and observation assessment of skills, fundamentals, and rules  30 to 40%

In class observation & assessment of work ethic & attitude 30 to 40%

In class oral quiz assessments of techniques and training skills 20 to 40%

Pedagogy Statement:
This class will be taught by lecture and lab which allows students to learn and practice golf skills as well as be assessed on knowledge of the rules and that golf is a lifetime sport. Skills will be accessible to people of varying forms of abilities. This course will promote inclusion by structuring assessment and teaching methods with the specific philosophy of valuing each participant's effort to improve, no matter the social category or demographic group they identify with.
