Catalog Description: Fundamentals of running to enhance an aerobic personal fitness program. Endurance strategies and running techniques will be taught in this class. This class is repeatable up to 2 times for credit.

Justification: Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will learn the fundamentals of jogging including endurance training and running and stretching techniques. Assessed through pre and post fitness testing and a final exam.

Jogging sees incremental physical gains. Students will be able to measure incremental physical gains made over an entire semester. Assessed through pre and post fitness testing and participatory jogs when attending class.

Students will evaluate their overall success they made during the semester in relation to jogging. Assessed through pre and post fitness testing.

Students will gain appreciation and knowledge of the value of jogging to their cardiovascular health.  Assessed through a final exam.


Content:
This course will cover the fundaments of jogging. These fundamentals will include basic jogging technique, guidelines, stretching techniques and strategies for lifelong fitness. Physical Education disciplines and Snow College value human diversity. This class will strive to represent that diversity in class materials and course content through examples, assignments, discussions, etc.

Key Performance Indicators:
Pre and Post Fitness Testing 25 to 35%

Final Exam 25 to 45%

Attendance  30 to 40%

Pedagogy Statement:
This class will be taught via a hand on activty lab which allows the students to learn and practice skills, as well as be assessed on their pre and post fitness levels. Skills will be accessible to people of varying forms of abilities. This course will promote inclusion by structuring assessment and teaching methods with the specific philosophy of valuing each participant's effort to improve no matter the social category or demographic group they identify with.
