Course Description

Medical Terminology is an online course that provides the basic knowledge and background of the technical language of medicine. Students learn the origins and definitions of root words, affixes, and abbreviations used in medicine today. This course is recommended for anyone interested in a health or medical field of study and is required for students completing the Medical Assistant program.

Justification

Competent completion of medical terminology prepares the student for future medically-based health occupation courses of study and/or practice. This is a required course in the Medical Assistant Technical Education program and is recommended for nursing students and other health occupation programs.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Upon successful completion of this course, students will develop a basic knowledge of the most commonly used medical terms.
  2. Upon successful completion of this course, students will master medical terminology through the use of an organized system of applied memory techniques.
  3. Upon successful completion of this course, students will master the meaning of Latin and Greek word elements and parts.

Course Content

In this course, students will learn the relevant terms they need to know to succeed in the healthcare field. They will memorize medical terminology through a simplified process by focusing on the importance of word parts.

An Introduction to Medical Terminology
Skeletal, Muscular, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Digestive, Urinary, Endocrine, Reproductive, Integumentary, Lymphatic, and Immune Systems
The Nervous System and Mental Health
Diagnostic Procedures, Nuclear Medicine, and Pharmacology
