Course Description
This course offers an aerobic and muscle conditioning fitness class utilizing the Zumba program to improve fitness and promote a healthy lifestyle. This class is repeatable up to 2 times for credit.
Justification
Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoperosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.
Student Learning Outcomes
- During this course, students will learn proper Zumba workouts and techniques.
- The value of exercise and stretching will be measured along with proper exertion levels.
- During the course, proper nutrition will be regularly measured.
Course Content
Students will participate and learn in an aerobics class format designed for cardiovascular, muscle, and flexibility conditioning. The Zumba program teaches easy-to-follow steps/movements to four basic Latin rhythms to create a fun and dynamic fitness program.
