Course Description

This course utilizes a variety of exercises, including step aerobics, weight training, and high intensity interval training, to improve fitness and promote a healthy lifestyle. This class is repeatable up to 2 times for credit.

Justification

Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoperosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will learn proper cross training workout techniques.
  2. Students will learn the value of cross training exercise.
  3. Students will learn how to measure proper exertion level.
  4. Students will learn proper nutrition to enhance cross training benefits. .

Students will learn the following fitness/wellness principles:
• Proper and safe biomechanics of specific exercises and stretches.
• Basics of nutrition for a fit lifestyle.
• Fundamental fitness education
• Aerobic exercise
• Strength exercise
• Flexibility
