Course Description

This course is for second-year members of the intercollegiate cheerleading squad at Snow College during the intercollegiate season. Cheerleading is a sport that requires a high fitness level and good conditioning skills, which have been shown to lead to fewer injuries. This class is intended to put student athletes into an optimal position so they will be ready to cheer during an intercollegiate season and improve their cheer skills, leadership skills, and rule-based knowledge of the sport.

Justification

This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled. Students who take activity classes also have improved overall college success. Activity courses fulfill elective requirements for all majors as well as pre-requisite requirements for some teaching majors.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Student athletes will be able to demonstrate the skills, conditioning and fundamentals and safety rules of cheerleading.
  2. Student athletes will be able to demonstrate the leadership qualities associated with playing as a team, including work ethic and attitude.
  3. Student athletes will be able to explain and discuss the use of physical conditioning techniques and training skills.

Course Content

This course will cover all the fundamentals of cheerleading skills and conditioning, leadership and knowledge of the sport's rules. Exercise Science disciplines and Snow College athletic teams strive to help students succeed through class materials and course content including examples, assignments, discussions, etc.
