Metal Casting with Resin Bonded Sand Molds

Course Description: 

Learn how to cast sculptures in bronze and aluminum, using sand molds. We will explore a variety of pattern making approaches featuring oil-based clay, wood, wax, cloth, and direct sand-carving techniques. This workshop will teach the entire sandcasting process from mold making, pouring molten metal, finishing and patinas, and will ultimately result in finished cast metal works of art.  This course is designed for novice sculptors or artists who want to add an additional technique to their creative process.

Biography: 

Robbie Barber was born in Williamston, North Carolina, and was raised on a farm near the Roanoke River. He received his BFA from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina and his MFA from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He has gained notoriety as a sculptor working in a variety of media, is an accomplished iron caster, and is the recipient of numerous awards. These include a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship and a Southern Arts Federation/NEA Fellowship in Sculpture. He has exhibited at Redbud Gallery in Houston, Texas, Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, New York, and Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey, to name a few. Although he has lived in the state of Texas during the last twenty–two years, he maintains a strong connection with his North Carolina roots and visits this state every summer.”
