SNOW COLLEGE NOW DELIVERING NURSING PROGRAM IN NEPHI
Patrick Painter and Central Valley Medical Center
Play Crucial Roles in Bringing Nursing to Nephi

EPHRAIM, Utah—January 12, 2006—Snow College is now offering a Licensed Practical Nursing program in Nephi. The LPN program is offered at Snow’s Nephi Center located on the campus of Central Valley Medical Center. Representative Patrick Painter, who secured a $103,000 allocation from the Utah Legislature, made this significant expansion of Snow’s nursing program possible. Snow was able to double the spots available for LPN students with the Painter money.

“The growth of our nursing program can be attributed specifically to Rep. Painter,” said Brad Winn, provost at Snow College. “An allocation like this affirms Snow’s role to educate the students who will meet the nursing needs of Central Utah.”

Besides the Painter money, Central Valley Medical Center offered Snow College the use of a building for classroom instruction at no cost. Mark Stoddard, president of Central Valley Medical Center, arranged the donation of classroom space.

“As Juab County grows our expectations grow of what local opportunities and conveniences should be,” said Patrick Painter, District 67 congressman. “A nursing program will not only provide a professional opportunity but it insures the quality of health care that citizens now receive at Central Valley Medical Center and other hospitals throughout Central Utah.”

Snow’s nursing offerings include a Certified Nursing Assistant and an LPN program. The CNA program is a one-semester class offered in Ephraim, Nephi, Richfield, Delta, Fillmore and Eureka. The LPN program is available in Ephraim, Richfield and Nephi. Students desiring to enter the LPN program must complete prerequisites that take 12 to 18 months to complete at Snow College. The LPN program can be completed in two semesters or less than one year.

Nursing professionals and students may also earn a Registered Nurse certification offered by Weber State on Snow’s Richfield campus. Snow’s long-term plan is to work with legislators, like Painter, and the Utah Board of Regents to offer the Weber State RN certification in Ephraim and Nephi and eventually offer its own RN program.
