Pinata Festival

EPHRAIM - After a hiatus lasting several years, Snow College and the Ephraim City Links Council are holding a Pinata Festival.

The festival, which was formally an annual event, is a collaboration of the Snow College Hispanic Student Association and the Links Council.

The event is set for Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in the Greenwood Student Center on Snow College campus.
The festival will include an international piñata auction, hot chocolate and snacks, music, dance performances and piñata hitting.

Everyone from Snow College and the community are invited to create a piñata representing their culture and heritage. They can be made individually, as a family, church group, or club.

Those who would like to participate and make a piñata can go to the Multicultural Center in the Student Center, where they have the supplies ready, or make their own at home. The piñatas need to be registered and ready by Wednesday  To register piñatas contact Alex Peterson 283-7432. Please do not fill the piñatas with candy for the auction.

The piñatas will be auctioned off in a silent auction, and the proceeds will go to sponsor low-income youth sports participation in Sanpete and help the Links Council promote diversity awareness in the area.

Up until a few years ago, the piñata festival was a tradition in Ephraim. This revival and new twist on the festival is a way to unify the community and expose them to different cultures and backgrounds, according to organizers.
