Catalog Description: The course introduces students to ballet pointe work by emphasizing proper alignment, balance and control necessary for the execution of beginning barre, center and across the floor exercises.

Prerequisites: DANC 1100 or DANC 1130

Corequisites: DANC 1130 or Instructor Permission


Justification: Classical ballet necessitates the use of pointe shoes. Students who wish to further their study of ballet technique must master this art in order to be able to perform classical ballet variations on stage. This class is most similar to DANC 3130 at SUU and DANC 221R at UVU


Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, students will acquire beginning pointe work technique skills. Students will be evaluated by instructor on their knowledge and demonstration of beginning pointe work at the barre, center and across the floor.

Students will analyze and apply the knowledge of ballet pointe technique to a dance performance. Students will attend and review Snow College dance concert and will also participate in the end of semester performance in front of a live audience.


Content:
Each class will consist of a warm-up, followed by pointe ballet exercises at the barre, center and across-the-floor, and culminate in a cool down. Students will also learn how to apply techniques of proper pointe work to a dance concert by participating in the informal end of semester performance and by writing a written critique of the Snow College dance concert.Students of all backgrounds, cultures and levels of talent/familiarity will be welcomed into an environment of cultivated belonging.

Dance Concert review 10 to 20%


Representative Text and/or Supplies:
Pointe shoes are required.


Pedagogy Statement:
