Catalog Description: This course is designed for students with prior ballroom experience as well as students who have taken Snow Ballroom Company I, Snow Ballroom Company II, and/or Snow Ballroom Company III course. It provides them with opportunities to perform ballroom choreography for the college, community, and local schools at a higher level of technique and sophistication.

Prerequisites: DANC 2758

Justification: This course will provide performance opportunities to students who wish to perform ballroom dance. This class is most similar to DANC 376R at UVU.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to demonstrate improved skills in performance including an increased understanding of musical rhythms in relation to ballroom dance, proper techniques specific to each dance, safe performance technique for lifts and drops, and stage presence.  This will be assessed though classroom conduct, technical and artistic process, and performance.

Students will develop skills for analyzing and evaluating the success of dance performances on the basis of technique, choeoagraphy, performance skills and storyline.  Students will provide both written and discussion based responses to videotaped performances, peers in class, and live performances.


Content:
This course will provide students with opportunities to learn: research skills for individual dances, safety in drops and lifts, floor patterns, rhythmic considerations for each dance, aesthetics in performance and execution, and working as a company ensemble.
Auditioned dancers of all backgrounds and cultures will be welcomed into an environment of cultivated inclusion.

Assignments/Performance Review 40 to 60%

Ballroom dance shoes, shirt, pants and skirts


Pedagogy Statement:
This course is taught through discussion, observation, practical application and performance review.
As an auditioned ensemble, participation is necessarily limited to students who display requisite skill development, but students of all backgrounds and physical types are invited to audition.
