About

I started studying chemistry at Ricks college and then transferred to BYU in 1997. As an undergraduate I worked on controlling the regioslectivity of organic reactions. It was fun to see if I could learn to control the orientation of molecules in a reaction. After completeing my BS, I moved to the University for Rochester where I studied organic photochemistry. During my graduate work, I was trying to develop a new type of light sensitive plastic that would allow for 3D data storage (a 3D DVD). After my graduate work I started my career in the private sector. Part of that time I co-founded a small chemical company that formulated and patented a coating for restoring automotive headlights. After selling that company I started teaching at Snow College.

I love to inspire my students with the amazing technological advances made possible by chemistry and opening their eyes to the amazing world of atoms and molecules and how they impact every aspect of life. My greatest joys in teaching come from seeing students understanding and passion come alive by a certain aspect of chemistry. While teaching at Snow college I have developed close ties to BYU chemistry and chemical engineering departments. I have successfully transferred many of my students to BYU upon graduation from Snow and I have also successfully landed several internship opportunities for my students at BYU over the summer. Prior research internships have been involved with small inorganic salt synthesis for use in molten salt reactors, physical property measurements for molten salts, potential small molecule drug synthesis, and computational chemistry using the BYU supercomputer.
