Our friendly faculty are excited to meet you and we will guide you through the audition process. We understand that many musicians will be nervous so our goal is to support you and help you during this audition process so that you can give your best performance. We look forward to hearing your music and wish you our best!

Wind and Brass Instrumentalists should bring one prepared piece to play and should be prepared to play several scales (some of their choice and some of our choice). Resumes highlighting musical experiences and performances are encouraged and will strengthen your position to receive a scholarship. A photo is also recommended. If you have any recordings of your playing you are also encouraged to provide us with a copy. NOTE: Recordings will not be returned so please do not bring originals.

Strings will need to play two contrasting solos or a solo and an etude. Sight reading is a possibility, but no scales. Resumes highlighting musical experiences and performances are encouraged and will strengthen your position to receive a scholarship. A photo is also recommended. If you have any recordings of your playing you are also encouraged to provide us with a copy. NOTE: Recordings will not be returned so please do not bring originals.

Percussionists should have at least one prepared solo on their instrument of choice. Although not required, all students are encouraged to prepare at least a portion of a snare etude or solo and, if possible, play some scales on the vibes. We may have you sight read if needed. Resumes highlighting musical experiences and performances are encouraged and will strengthen your position to receive a scholarship. A photo is also recommended. If you have any recordings of your playing you are also encouraged to provide us with a copy. NOTE: Recordings will not be returned so please do not bring originals.

Vocal auditions will be 5-7 minutes in length. Students should prepare two contrasting pieces: one should be an art song or operatic aria, preferably in a foreign language; the other may be lighter, including Broadway or pop . Students may bring their own accompanist, use a tape or CD, or if necessary, and accompanist will be provided. There is no sight singing required. A resume highlighting musical experiences and performances, along with a current photo are encouraged and will strengthen your position to receive a scholarship. In addition to the resume, students may also submit recordings, but please note that none of these items will be returned, so please do not submit any original copies or irreplaceable materials.

Piano auditions will be approximately 15 minutes in length. Students should prepare two pieces in contrasting styles from the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary. All pieces have to be performed from memory. Scales and sight-reading will be tested. Resumes highlighting musical experiences and performances are encouraged and will strengthen your application. A photo is also recommended. Scholarships are awarded mainly to piano majors.

Piano and Vocal If a student wants to audition for both voice and piano, then they will be scheduled for a ten minutes slot. Resumes highlighting musical experiences and performances are encouraged and will strengthen your position to receive a scholarship.

Guitar Students should prepare two contrasting pieces, and be able to demonstrate comping and soloing in various styles.

Jazz instrumentalists and vocalists should bring one prepared piece to play and should be prepared to play several scales. The prepared piece should demonstrate your reading and improvisational abilities, i.e. how you can play over chord changes. A good example of this would be something from the American Songbook or Jazz Standard Repertoire, such as a 12-bar blues or any 32-bar or AABA jazz song form. These can be found in any of the Real Books. Resumes highlighting musical experiences and performances are encouraged and will strengthen your position to receive a scholarship. A photo is also recommended.
