Catalog Description: This course is designed to introduce the students to the basic concepts and technology involved in designing, creating, implementing and delivering audio and effects for the gaming industry.

Prerequisites: Admission to the BMCM program or permission of the instructor.

Justification: The gaming industry represents a significant opportunity for composers to work. Students will use the skills they learn in this course to compete for work in the gaming industry marketplace.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of acoustics and other aspects of the science of sounds and the electrical manipulation of sounds in recording situations.  This outcome will be assessed through class participation, exams, and assigned projects.

Demonstrate the ability to develop specific recordings of professional quality from concept to technical and artistic process to finished work.  This outcome will be assessed through class participation, exams, and assigned projects.

Demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of recording equipment and practice and the ability to apply this knowledge in recording situations.  This outcome will be assessed through class participation, exams, and assigned projects.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of audio for gaming software & hardware, capturing editing techniques, insertion & placement, backgrounds & soundscapes, and finalization & delivery.  This outcome will be assessed through class participation, exams, and assigned projects.

This course will be delivered via a combination of direct instruction, class discussion, demonstration, and teacher directed hands-on work.
