Growing and Learning from the Staff

Growing and Learning from the Staff

Badger alum, Marci Larsen (‘97), Snow College Chief of Staff, was a student at Snow College, took a variety of classes and worked as an ambassador in the admissions office as part of her scholarship. Later, she began taking notes and summarizing the commentary of faculty and staff meetings—a position of responsibility for a student.

After Snow College, Marci attended Utah State before coming back to Ephraim with her husband. Through connections that she made at Snow, she was able to work as an academic advisor. Even though she only intended for it to be a summer job, it turned into much more. During this time, a position opened in the President’s office; Marci decided to apply for the position, knowing that it would be a long shot because she had only been working for the college for a short amount of time. After a successful interview, where her writing skills were examined, she received the word that she got the job and she continues to work as the special assistant to the President to this day.

She provides the following advice, taken from her own experiences:

  • “Represent your employer! Their work is handed to you! They have high expectations of what to do and how to act.”
  • “Think- how can I make my employer’s life easier? Asking how you can help ends up coming back to benefit you.”
  • “Do things to make you stand out so that when one of your references are called, they will have something great to say about you.”
  • “The more education you have, the better parent, citizen, and consumer you become.”
  • “When you are writing and communicating, make sure that you do so professionally."
