How to: The First and Every Day of Work

Fall semester is coming fast but preparing for classes and move-in day shouldn't be the only things on your mind. Having a job while at school is beneficial in multiple ways. Now is the best time to apply for on and off campus jobs that will help you achieve success. Once you land the job, it is important to know what to do on your first day and every day after that.

1. Show up early - If you have to, practice the route a few times before the big day to make sure you can arrive at least 15 minutes early.

2. Don't skip training sessions - Whatever you do, don't miss these. It is important that you do not present yourself as irresponsible. You may also fall behind if you do not attend.

3. Listen and observe - This is a prime opportunity for you to understand the written and unwritten rules of the company and will keep you up to date on any new changes or assignments.

4. Look and play the part - Make sure that you are just as professional as you were in your interview in your looks and actions.

5. Be yourself - Be consistent with who you are on day 1 and day 156.

6. End the day with a good attitude - Don't be too hard on yourself if your day does not go flawlessly. Be proud of the things you accomplished and come back on a fresh start.
