The Registrar's office builds any given semester's schedule with the following priorities:
Existing and additional academic class section requests are:
Divisions should schedule 50% GE in the morning and 50% in the afternoon. Divisions should schedule non-GE classes the same way.
Bell times for all classes are as follows:
Courses taught four or five days a week follow the MWF bell times.
To maximize space utilization, the following courses can follow a nonstandard bell schedule by starting on the hour or half-hour:
Departments can only remove a GE course from the schedule (even from the proposed schedule) with the approval of the Division Dean and the Office of Academic Affairs.
All modifications to courses offered for a semester must take place at least twenty-one (21) days or three (3) weeks prior to the semester's start date. Only exigent circumstances allow exceptions to this rule. Modifications covered by this policy include changing professors, classrooms, times, meeting days, and start and end dates.
Canceling course offerings must take place at least three (3) weeks prior to a semester’s start date. After the third week deadline, departments are responsible to teach the courses they advertised to students.
Exceptions to rule 126.96.36.199 will be granted, with the approval of the Academic Vice President, when some unforeseen exigency occurs. Examples of these include, severe health problems, death of a faculty member, and an unforeseen retirement coupled with an inability to fill the position. Also, a course can be canceled with the same approval when the enrollment does not justify the class.
Departments that cancel a course after the third week deadline must take reasonable steps to notify all students registered for that course.
Except where otherwise noted, the authority to grant general exceptions to these scheduling rules rests with Deans Council.
